The Grand Valley State Volleyball Team will host the Ferris State Bulldogs on Friday, Oct. 29, and the Davenport Panthers on Saturday, Oct. 30. After defeating Lake Superior State and Northwood this past weekend, the Lakers are looking to extend their five game winning streak in their final weekend at home.
While the Bulldogs lead the GLIAC South Division, the Lakers are currently second in the GLIAC South with a conference record of 7-3 and 14-7 overall. The Panthers are also in the middle of the GLIAC South as they sit in third place behind the Lakers. The Lakers are fourth overall in GLIAC.
GVSU is second in the conference in kills (1047), second in assists (956), second in blocks (170), and third in kill percentage (.238). Junior setter Rachel Jacquay is first in the GLIAC in assists (838). Senior Ali Thompson received GLIAC South Player of the Week this week and is fifth in the GLIAC in kills this season (227). Junior Sarah Wight is third in the GLIAC in blocks (74) and blocks per set (1.03), as well as fifth in hitting percentage (.310).
On Friday, Oct. 29, the Lakers will take on Ferris State at 3:00 p.m. This will be the second match up between the Lakers and Bulldogs this season. Earlier this year, the Lakers fell in a close five set loss at Ferris. The Bulldogs are currently 8-2 in the GLIAC and 8-4 overall. The Lakers lead the overall series against the Bulldogs, 68-56.
The Lakers will play the Davenport Panthers on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 4:00 p.m. This will also be the second match up between the Lakers and Panthers this year. Earlier this season, the Lakers defeated the Panthers in a four set match on the road. Davenport is currently 5-5 in the GLIAC and 13-9 overall. The overall series is tied between the Lakers and Panthers at 5-5.
