No. 1 GVSU finds another late winner Sunday, downs Northern Michigan

Lakers win 4-3 to move to 12-0-1 on the season

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 1 Grand Valley State Lakers found another late winner, 4-3, over the Northern Michigan Wildcats Sunday (Oct. 17) on Alumni Day at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers improve to 12-0-1 on the season and 8-0-1 on GLIAC play to remain alone in first place in the conference.

Greta DeLoach led the Laker attack with her second hat-trick of the season, including the game-winner, to give her a league-best 15 goals on the year. Northern Michigan struck early with a set piece in the 8' that led to a crossing finish but DeLoach responded on a feed from Caitie Baron with just seconds before halftime to tie things up at the break.

Northern scored early out of half to regain the lead but it was Greta again to tie things up in the 65' when Brooke Russell sent a nice insert from the midfield on a free kick for Greta to finish off. A corner kick setup led to Taylor Reid in a 1v1 with the Northern keeper in the 73' and Reid was able to slide a cross in front of goal where Baron slid onto it to put GVSU in front.

Northern would find an equalizer in the 84', a la Friday at Saginaw Valley, but again the Lakers had the answer as Baron played a beautiful cross from the midfield to set DeLoach up all alone in the left side of the box where she was calm and composed for the game-winner.

GVSU is back in action this Friday (Oct. 22) when they host the Michigan Tech Huskies at 4:00 PM.
