DETROIT, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women's basketball team will finish off their five-game road swing with a pair of games at Wayne State beginning Saturday (Jan. 30) at 2:00 PM. The two teams will play the second game of the series on Sunday (Jan. 31) at 2:00 PM.

The Lakers currently lead the GLIAC South Division by two games and are tied with Michigan Tech for the top spot in the conference. Additionally, those two teams are also the two best scoring defenses in the league and force the lowest shooting percentage from the field. The GLIAC Tournament format and location has yet to be announced.

GVSU dropped their first contest of the season last Friday at Parkside, 68-64, but bounced back the following day in a 23-point rout of the Rangers, 77-54. In a short turnaround, the Lakers traveled to Davenport on Tuesday and used a late fourth quarter surge to put away the Panthers and improve to 6-1 overall. Junior Emily Spitzley had a big weekend, scoring a career-high 22 points in game one against Parkside, then followed that up with a 20-point performance in game two of the series. The Fowler, Mich. native also recorded a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) on Tuesday in the win over Davenport. Fellow classmate Hannah Kulas also put up monster game last Friday, scoring a career-high 28 points on 10-14 shooting.

Wayne State began the season 3-0, but have since dropped three out of their last four. Most recently, the Warriors split with Northwood last weekend before falling to Ashland on Tuesday. Grace George is currently averaging 22.3 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game to lead Wayne State, but she did not play in Tuesday's game at Ashland.  The Warriors rank third in the GLIAC in scoring at 73.0 points per game, however they lead the conference in turnovers per game at 16.7.
