ASHLAND, Ohio – The #4 ranked Grand Valley State women's basketball team fell to #2 ranked Ashland, 61-53, in the GLIAC Tournament Championship on Sunday afternoon at Kates Gymnasium. The Lakers move to 28-3 overall and will learn their NCAA Tournament opponent at 10:00 PM on the NCAA Selection Show. The location of the Midwest Region will be announced at 9:00 PM via twitter (@NCAADII).

The Lakers jumped out to a 4-0 lead, holding the Eagles without a point for the first three minutes of the contest, and maintained a 6-4 lead at the 6:12 mark of the first quarter. However, Ashland would quickly gain the lead at 9-6 and the Lakers trailed the rest of the contest.
GVSU was down 28-23 at the half, but early in the second half, the Lakers drilled three pointers on three consecutive possessions to trim the deficit to just 33-32 with 5:39 left in the third quarter. The two teams traded baskets for the duration of the quarter and Ashland led 38-35 entering the fourth quarter. The Lakers kept the deficit at three-points until the 4:39 mark when the Eagles got a layup to go and followed that up with another layup and a foul. Ashland was up seven and would grow the lead to as many as 11 points at 57-46 with 2:26 remaining.

Maddie Dailey had a team-high 19 points to lead the Lakers, while senior center
Cassidy Boensch recorded eight points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. GVSU's defense held Ashland to their lowest point total of the season, as their previous low was 77 points.
