HOUGHTON, Mich. – The No. 21 Grand Valley State Lakers fell in their final road game of the regular season, 78-70, to the Michigan Tech Huskies Saturday (Feb. 22) afternoon at the SDC Gym. The Lakers drop to 21-6 overall and 14-5 in GLIAC play. The regular season finale comes this Thursday (Feb. 27) at 8:00 PM when GVSU hosts Davenport for senior night.
Jake Van Tubbergen was once again a force for the Lakers, scoring 27 points on 10-15 shooting while securing 14 rebounds despite the loss.
Jeremiah Ferguson wound up with 23 points, but no other Laker surpassed six points on the afternoon. Kyle Monroe dropped 41 points with 11 rebounds to lead the Huskies to victory and a split of the season series. The Lakers trailed by five at halftime and had a few good runs in the second half to cut the deficit as low as two points, but couldn't come all the way back.
The Lakers can still clinch a share of the GLIAC regular season championship with a win Thursday coupled by a Ferris State loss. The Laker game will air on ESPN3 and ESPN 96.1 FM.
