No. 1 GVSU falls, 1-0, at No. 25 Minnesota State Sunday

Lakers drop first regular season match since 2017

MANKATO, Minn. – The No. 1 Grand Valley State Lakers fell on the road, 1-0, to the No. 25 Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks Sunday afternoon at The Pitch on the campus of MSU-Mankato. The loss drops the Lakers to 3-1 on the year while Mankato improves to 3-0. This is the first regular season loss for the Lakers since the 2017 season.

The Lakers held a 15-2 advantage in shots in the first half and a 25-8 edge in the stat for the game, but a turnover in the 85' gave Minnesota State a clear look at goal, which they converted to break the tie late. Riko Sagara took nine shots and Ava Cook launched six, but neither could find the back of the net. Jessica Radice matched a career high with four saves on the day.

The Lakers continue their difficult non-conference slate as they travel to No. 2 Columbus State – who also lost on Sunday – for a showdown on Saturday, September 21. GVSULakers.com will provide links to live stats and video while @GVSUSoccer live tweets updates.
