Box Score COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 4 Grand Valley State Lakers used an early goal to bounce back with a 1-0 win over No. 13 Columbus State Saturday (Sept. 21) afternoon at the Walden Soccer Complex.
Ava Cook scored her fourth goal of the season in the 12' for the only tally of a tough matchup between two of the most potent offenses in Division II. GVSU improves to 4-1 on the season while Columbus State suffers their third straight defeat to fall to 3-3 on the year.
A set piece set up the only goal of the day.
Sydney O'Donnell played a corner kick into the middle of the box, where
Kennedy Bearden controlled the ball and slid it over to Cook for the finish. The Lakers had several chances to add to the lead, putting six shots on goal in the first half, but the lone goal would prove to be enough.
This was the final non-conference road matchup for the Lakers, who will return home Tuesday (Sept. 24) to host Illinois-Springfield at 7:00 PM. The game will air on ESPN3 and live stats and video links will be available through GVSULakers.com. @GVSUSoccer will live Tweet the contest.
