#10 Grand Valley State will host Delta State in a key national matchup at Lubbers Stadium Saturday, September 7 at 7 p.m.. The Lakers and Statesmen both come in 1-0 after week one wins. GVSU claimed a 35-10 victory over Edinboro, while Delta State defeated Tusculum 24-10.Â

• A season-opening crowd of 14,552 watched the Lakers claim a 35-10 victory over Edinboro. The Lakers led the nation in attendance for the 7th consecutive year in 2018. Lubbers Stadium drew 77,725 fans in seven home dates for an average of 11,104. The total and average led NCAA DII.Â

Aryuan Cain-Veasey was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Lakers' 35-10 win over Edinboro. Cain-Veasey, who rushed for a career-high 200 yards and three touchdowns on just 11 carries, scored on runs of 48, 94 and 29 yards. In addition, he averaged 18.2 yards per carry and his 94 yard TD run was the third longest in program history, while also becoming the 22nd player to reach the 200-yard rushing mark in a single-game. In 2018, Cain-Veasey rushed for 210 yards and one TD on 30 carries.Â

DELTA STATE
The Statesmen are coming off a 24-10 victory over Tusculum. DSU led 24-0 after three quarters before giving up 10 fourth quarter points. Delta State tallied 295 yards of total offense, 130 on the ground and 165 through the air. The DSU defense limited Tusculum to 282 yards of total offense, including 81 via the ground game. QB Patrick Shegog passed for 165 yards to lead the offense, while LB Vada King led the defense with 13 tackles.Â
