Grand Valley State dropped a GLIAC doubleheader at league-leading and #21 Ashland Thursday (April 18), falling 7-3 in game one and 12-5 in game two. GVSU and Ashland will wrap up the four-game series Friday (April 19) with a twin bill beginning at 1:30.
Game 1
Grand Valley State scored a single run in the bottom of the second on a back-to-back singles from 1B
Nathan Bonter and 2B
Anthony Cocco that advanced Bonter to third. LF
Connor Grice plated Bonter with a sac fly to center that scored Bonter. Ashland tied the game in the bottom of the second and took a 3-1 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. However, the Lakers tied the game (3-3) with two runs on three hits in the top of the fifth. CF
Drake Ellens doubled and scored on a single by SS
Parker Murdie. Murdie then scored on a single by C
Joe Laudont. The Eagles scored three runs on two hits in the bottom of the fifth and added a run the bottom of sixth.
Cade Cintorino, who yielded three runs on three hits with three strikeouts and three walks, got the start, but was not involved in the decision.
Nick Shaw took the loss, giving up three runs on three hits in 1.2 innings of work.
Game 2
Ashland scored four runs in the bottom of the first on four hits and never looked back. The Lakers scored single runs in the top of the fifth and seventh innings, followed by a 3-run ninth. Cocco doubled home Murdie in the fifth, while another Cocco double in the seventh led to a run when he scored on a Bonter single. Cocco recorded his third hit of the and scored when

The Lakers pounded out 13 hits, led by a 3-for-5 outing from Cocco with two doubles, while Bonter, Murdie and Grice each collected two hits.
