Grand Valley State dropped a non-conference doubleheader Monday (Feb. 25) afternoon at the Dunn Hospitality Classic to #15 Southern Indiana, dropping game one 6-2, before falling in game two 5-0. GVSU is now 1-3 on the year, while Southern Indiana improves to 6-1.
Game 1 - GVSU struck first with a solo homerun off the bat of RF
Jacob Gleason, but the Eagles scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first. Southern Indiana added five unearned runs on two hits and three Laker errors. The Lakers added an unearned run in the top of the sixth for the final margin. Catcher
Joe Laudont led the Laker offense with two hits and GLIAC drove in the only run for the Lakers.
Christian Mercure was tagged with the loss despite not allowing an earned run. Mercure struck out seven and walked two in 4.0 innings of work.
Michael Morelli tossed four innings of hitless mound work, striking out three and walking five.
Game 2 - Southern Indiana scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings, followed by a two-spot in the bottom of the sixth. GVSU outhit USI 8-5, but was unable to push a run across home plate. CF
