Final Results

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men and women's track and field teams completed the first meet of the season at the GVSU Holiday Open.  The women's team showed seven NCAA Division II provisional times and three automatic qualifying times while the men posted 10 provisional results.
 
Senior Allie Ludge started the year out on a strong foot as she broke the GVSU women's 3000m time by more than four seconds with a finish of 9:18.04, good for an automatic qualification.  Hanna Groeber was the second Laker to earn an automatic bid in the 5000m with a fourth place finish in 16:30.76
 
Nicole Sreenan placed third in the 60m dash with a provisional 7.57 sprint.  Jessica Gockley (6th; 16:35.85) and Natalie Graber (9th; 16:51.99) also earned provisional times in the 5000m race.  The 4x400m relay team of Sarah Beulla, Jessica Eby, Asia Smith and Nicole Sreenan placed third with a time of 3:50.71 to conclude the women's track events.
 
Reigning indoor National Champion Bobbie Goodwin will look to defend her weight throw title at the 2020 NCAA DII Indoor Nationals as threw for an automatic qualifying launch of 20.19m.  Sophomore Anna Obi (11.54m) and junior Erika Lechner (14.56m) both took third place in the triple jump and shot put, respectively.
 
Dennis Mbuta (1:50.22) and Tyler Walters (1:52.10) dominated the men's 800m dash as they finished first and third to earn provisional times.  In the 600m race, Matt McLaughlin defeated the competition with a time of 1:21.83.  Sophomore Tanner Chada (14:12.63) and junior Connor Schwartz (14:19.89) finished third and sixth in the men's 5000m race, earning DII provisional times. 
 
In the field events, Justin Scavarda led the Lakers with a first place throw of 17.02m in the shot put.  Ryan Mount and Joshua Veldheer saw a second place tie in the high jump with a leap of 2.01m.  Juniors Leon White (19.36m) and Hunter Harding (19.16m) earned second and third place, respectively in the weight throw. 
 
The Lakers resume indoor action after the holiday break on Friday, Jan. 10 at home in the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open.
