#3 Lakers use big performances from Boensch and DeBoer to defeat Stonehill College on Sunday afternoon

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The #3 ranked Grand Valley State women's basketball team defeated Stonehill College (Mass.) 87-64 in a non-conference matchup at the Ocean Center on Sunday afternoon. The Lakers improve to 11-0 overall and complete their non-conference schedule with an 8-0 record.
 
Senior guard Jenn DeBoer scored 29 points (27 in first half) on 11-19 shooting including 5-10 from three-point range and added seven assists and five rebounds to lead GVSU, while fellow classmate Cassidy Boensch poured in 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Senior guard Taryn Taugher and senior forward Maddie Dailey also finished in double-figures with 12 and 10 points respectively. GVSU shot 48.5% (32-66) from the field and 40.9% (9-22) behind the arc, in addition to holding the advantage in points in the paint (46-12) and points off turnovers (23-9).
 
The two teams traded baskets for the first five minutes of the contest before DeBoer knocked down three triples within a 1:22 span to give the Lakers a 30-20 lead at the end of the quarter. GVSU increased their lead in the second quarter and went up by a game-high 24 points with 2:22 left in the half. The Lakers led 56-37 at the break.
 
GVSU maintained the lead early in the third quarter at 67-44, however Stonehill would end the quarter on an 11-0 run and trim the deficit to just 12, 67-55, heading into the fourth quarter. The Skyhawks would get as close as 11 points at 71-60 with 7:54 remaining, but the Lakers held Stonehill without a point the final 5:24 of the game and cruise to a 23-point victory.
 
The Lakers will resume GLIAC play after the New Year on Jan. 2 at Ferris State beginning at 7:30 P.M.
