PREVIEW: #3 Lakers continue homestand this weekend against Hillsdale and Findlay

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The #3 ranked Grand Valley State women's basketball team will continue their three-game homestand this weekend with a pair of matchups against former GLIAC institutions. On Friday, GVSU will take on the Hillsdale Chargers at 6:00 PM before playing host to the University of Findlay on Sunday at 1:00 PM. The Lakers will enter the weekend with a 3-0 record and a 13-game regular season win streak.
 
Last Sunday, the Lakers 72-57 win over Lewis was headlined by senior guard Jenn DeBoer scoring her 1,000th career point on a three-point basket with 1:20 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Byron Center, Mich. native is the 26th player in program history to surpass the 1,000 point total. DeBoer contributed more to the team then just scoring as she dished out a career-high 12 assists, grabbed six rebounds, and had three steals to go along with her eight points. Senior forward Maddie Dailey had a game-high 20 points, while senior guard Taryn Taugher scored 14 points and senior center Cassidy Boensch posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Victoria Hedemark also scored in double-figures with 10 points and created havoc on the defensive end with three blocks and three steals.
 
GVSU has outscored each of their first three opponents by at least 15 points while putting up some imposing statistical numbers in the process. The Lakers are amongst the nation's leaders in multiple team and individual categories.

Hillsdale comes into Friday's matchup with a 2-2 record with all four of their games being against GLIAC competition. The Chargers defeated Northwood and Lake Superior State, while dropping games against Saginaw Valley State and Ferris State. Hillsdale has three players scoring in double-figures including sophomore guard Lauren Daffenberg who averages 16.3 points per game while shooting at a 43.6% clip. As a team the Chargers have shot an impressive 84.8% from the charity stripe so far this season.
 
GVSU leads the all-times series with Hillsdale, 50-16, but fell in the last meeting between the two schools at Hillsdale on Dec. 8, 2016 by a score of 54-47.
 
Findlay will play Davenport on Friday night before coming into Allendale on Sunday for the 1:00 PM matchup. The Oilers are currently 3-2 with wins over Northwood, Saginaw Valley, and Defiance, while dropping games with Wayne State and Ashland. The Findlay offense boasts a balanced scoring attack with all five of their starters averaging at least six points per game and the leader only at 10.6 points per game. On the defensive end, the Oilers rank 14th in the country in blocks per game (5.6) and 17th in steals per game (13.2). In the win over Defiance on Nov. 16, Findlay recorded 29 steals which set a school record.
 
GVSU leads the all-time series with Findlay, 15-7. The last meeting between the two schools was in 2016 which resulted in a 64-43 win for the Lakers.
