News and Notes From #8 GVSU's 21-10 Victory At Delta State

Lakers improve to 2-0 on the year

#8 Grand Valley State claimed a tough 21-10 victory at non-conference foe Delta State Saturday (Sept. 8) evening. The start of the game was delayed due to some severe weather. GVSU improves to 2-0 heading into the GLIAC opener at Northern Michigan this Saturday (Sept. 15).

News and Notes in the Lakers' 21-10 victory over Delta State
• Grand Valley State is the winningestFBS, FCS and Division II program in the country, boasting a record of 393-142-3 (.733) in 48 years of playing football. 

• The Lakers are now 2-0 all-time versus Gulf South power Delta State.

• GVSU is 28-20 all-time in road openers, including a 14-4 record mark since 2001.

• Grand Valley State senior QB Bart Williams has thrown 109 career TD passes, making him the active leader D2 football and just one TD pass from moving into a tie for second on the GVSU career list (Cullen Finnerty- 110)...Williams has thrown for 10,230 yards all-time, second on the D2 active list and third on the GVSU all-time list. He trails Curt Anesby 351 yards...Williams is 34-7 as a startng QB. 

• The Grand Valley State defense tallied 18 tackles for loss (-76) and 5.5 QB sacks at Delta State.

• Senior DE Dylan Carroll recorded a career, single-game high 13 total tackles (8 solo/5 assisted) in the #8 Lakers' 21-10 road win at Delta State. Carroll added a team-high three tackles for loss (-8) and a QB sack in the non-conference win.

• Senior punter Collin Cribleyaveraged 45.3 yards on 12 punts at Delta State. Cribleypunted into a brisk wind five times in the first quarter from deep in GVSUterritory, but was able to keep the Delta State's average starting field position on their own 35 yard line. Cribleyhad a long punt of 61 yards.

• Five defenders, TyleBradfield (-2), Michael Pettis(-17), Chris Hendricks (-9), Jake Hlava(-6) and Johnathon Williams (-14), tallied 2.0 tackles for loss at Delta State.

• Senior LB Raju Blackmon blocked two punts at Delta State, each leading to a TD.

• Junior WR Austin Paritee leads GVSUin receptions with 12, four of which have gone for a TD.

• The Laker running game came up big at Delta State with junior Chawntez Moss rushing for 92 yards and a TD on 23 carries, while redshirt freshman Jack Provencher tallied 89 yards on 19 carries...Moss has rushed for 227 yards in two game, followed by Provencher who has 142 yards.

• The Laker defense has recorded 26 tackles for loss (-91) and six QB sacks (-36) in two games this season. 

• On the heels of a road game in Cleveland, Mississippi (1,464 miles round trip) to take on Delta State, the Lakers will stay on the road for a trip to Marquette, Michigan (828 miles round trip) to take on Northern Michigan. The Lakers will have traveled 2,392 miles between the back-to-back road games.

• Grand Valley State has started the season 2-0 for the 16thtime in the last 18 years.
