Grand Valley State (41-8) dropped a 1-0 decision to Hillsdale College (25-14) Thursday (May 10) in opening round action at the NCAA D2 Midwest Region 1 tourney being held at the GVSU Softball Field. The Lakers will now play in an elimination game Friday (May 11) at 1:30 p.m.
Grand Valley State was unable to come up with a key hit early and left eight runners on base through the first five innings of action. Hillsdale broke through in the top of the sixth with a leadoff single by LF Katie Kish, who was then sacrificed to second by 2B Amanda Marra. Following a strikeout, 3B Jessica Taylor delivered a two-out single to center to plate the only run of the game.

Allison Lipovsky (20-4) gave up one run on four hits with 10 strikeouts, while Hillsdale's Erin Hunt (20-6) picked up the victory on the mound, yielding three hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts.
