Lakers fall to Rockhurst in extras Friday

Brawley hurls nine innings in loss to Hawks

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Grand Valley State Lakers had their five-game winning streak snapped in a 3-2 loss to the Rockhurst Hawks in 10 innings Friday at Heritage Park. Grand Valley State falls to 7-5 on the season while Rockhurst improves to 3-6 on the year.\

Tate Brawley was fantastic Friday, allowing two runs in nine innings of work without walking a batter. Josh D. Smith suffered the loss, allowing a run on one hit in 0.1 innings of work. Jack Eisenbarger hurled four scoreless innings of relief to earn the win for Rockhurst. Three Lakers had multi-hit games: Ryan Blake-Jones, Austin LaDoux and Ricky Clark.

The Hawks scored single tallies in each of the first two innings, putting the Lakers behind by multiple runs for the first time during their Florida trip. The Lakers tied things up in the fourth thanks to RBI singles from Austin LaDoux and pinch hitter Chase Carpenter. The Hawks walked off in the tenth with an RBI single after a pair of errors left a runner at third with one out.

The Lakers look to get back to their winning ways Saturday in a doubleheader against Slippery Rock beginning at 11:00 AM. GVSULakers.com and @GVSUBaseball on Twitter will have live updates throughout the day.
