Lakers Drop 7-1 Decision To Minnesota-Duluth In Game 2 Sunday

Grand Valley State dropped a 7-1 decision to Minnesota-Duluth in its second game on Sunday Clermont, Fla. The Lakers fall to 4-4 overall, while Minnesota-Duluth improves to 8-3. GVSU will square off against Wilmington on Monday at 9 a.m., followed by an 11:30 matchup versus Urbana at 11:30 a.m.

It was a pitchers dual through the first three innings as neither team was able string together much offensively. However, with one out in the top of the fourth Minnesota-Duluth put together a walk and three consecutive singles to take a 1-0 lead. A second run scored on a fielder's choice, followed by a stolen base, a walk to load the bases, a 2-run single and another RBI single to take a 5-0 lead on five hits in the inning. UMD added two more runs in the top of the sixth on three hits to increase its lead to 7-0.

2B Taylor Rieger singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh and scored on a Jessica Ramos pinch-hit double to right center.

SS Shannon Flaherty led the offense with two hits, while Rieger tallied a hit, a run scored and walked twice. Ramos drove in the Lakers' only run with a double. Hannah Beatus was tagged with the loss, yielding five runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings of work. Allie Grys gave up two runs on four hits in 3.1 innings of relief.
