Grand Valley State head track & field coach Jerry Baltes announced the hiring of Reynaldo Radlin as an assistant coach for the men's and women's track & field teams. Radlin will be in charge of the sprints and hurdles groups for both.
"We are excited to have Reynaldo join our staff and help our student-athletes in all areas of their life," said Baltes. "Reynaldo brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from his collegiate days to his post collegiate training and onto his last three years of coaching at Troy University.
Radlin comes to Grand Valley State after spending the last three years at Troy University. He began as a graduate assistant from 2015-17, before being promoted to an assistant coach for the sprints, hurdlers and jump athletes for the 2017-18 season. In his first two seasons with the Trojans, Radlin assisted in coaching nine individuals and one relay team that earned All Sun-Belt honors, along with five more NCAA East Prelim qualifiers.
In 2018, Radlin had eight athletes capture All Sun-Belt accolades along with two conference championships by the men's 4x100m relay team and the men's 400m dash champion, before sending three more individuals and one relay team to the NCAA East Prelims.
In addition, Radlin has also coached two different Troy athletes that competed at the USA Junior Championships in 2017 and 2018.
"I would like to thank coach Baltes and the entire search committee for the opportunity to coach at Grand Valley State," said Radlin. "I am excited to be apart of a program with such tradition and history of excellence on and off the track."
Prior to Troy, Radlin served as the assistant track & field coach at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, Ariz., where he coached three athletes that would qualify for the Arizona Division I State Meet and helped the boys and girls team finish as the district's runner-ups at the Paradise Valley District Championships during the 2014-15 season. Radlin also served as a sports performance coach at Redline Athletics.
The new Laker coach brings four years of collegiate experience with him as well, having competed at the University of North Carolina, where he was a two-time ACC Champion in the 400m hurdles (2011) and the 4x400m relay (2013), a four-time NCAA East Regional qualifier and a NCAA qualifier in the 4x400m relay in 2012. He was also a six-time All-ACC athlete and served as a captain for two years.
"When he was on campus he connected well with our student-athletes and brought incredible energy as we went through the interview process. We are confidant Reynaldo will help groom our student-athletes at a high level in the classroom, on the track and in their personal lives on a daily basis," Baltes said.
Raldlin graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sports Science, and earned his master's degree in sport and fitness management from Troy.
