Lakers Fall in GLIAC Tournament Game to Tiffin

XENIA, Ohio -- The Grand Valley State baseball team dropped the final game of the season to Tiffin University in the GLIAC Tournament, 7-5. GVSU earned the chance to play in the play-in game by defeating Hillsdale 8-6 earlier in the afternoon, and would have faced Northwood in the title game on Sunday morning.

The Lakers move to 31-23 on the season with the loss.

After falling behind 5-0 early in the contest, the Lakers got new life in the fifth inning, scoring five runs in the inning to tie the game at five apiece. With one out in the inning, Austin LaDoux doubled and then came home on a resulting passed ball and throwing error by Tiffin to score GVSU's first run. Matt Williams and Seth Johnson then reached on a base hit and throwing error, respectively, and were driven in by a deep double to right center by Brody Andrews. After Johnny Nate and Josh Smith drew walks to get aboard, Alex Young hit a ground-rule double to drive in two more runs and tie the game at 5-5.

Unfortunately, that would be the only runs the Lakers would manage in the game, and Tiffin scored solo runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull ahead in the contest.

LaDoux and Williams both notched tow hits and scored a run in the contest, while Andrews and Young both doubled and tallied two RBI. A total of five Lakers (Jake Mason, Mitch Ashcraft, Brendan Nearing, Noah Lamboley and Evan Koning) pitched in the contest.

Outfielder Keith Browning, infielder/designated hitter Austin LaDoux and starting pitcher Ryan Arnold were named to the GLIAC All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the tournament.
