Lakers down Lawrence Tech 101-62 Monday

GVSU has scored 196 points over last two contests

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Grand Valley State Lakers scored in triple figures for the first time since 2015 en route to a 101-62 win over the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils Monday night at the GVSU Fieldhouse. Seven different Lakers scored in double figures as the Lakers claimed the wire-to-wire win. The Lakers, winners of two straight, improve to 5-7 on the year while Lawrence Tech falls to 1-12 on the season.

The Lakers shot a season-best 55% from the floor while Lawrence Tech hit 41% of their attempts. The Lakers finished 13-29 from three and knocked down 12-13 free throws, their most efficient game at the charity stripe this season. Grand Valley State won the rebound battle 41-26 and committed just five turnovers while forcing 13 giveaways by the Blue Devils.

The Lakers scored the first nine points of the game and opened up the night on a 13-2 run. GVSU had four separate runs of eight or more unanswered points throughout the night. After a Hunter Hale three at the ten-minute mark of the first half put the Lakers up 12, GVSU never saw their lead dip under double figures again.

Hale led the scoring for GVSU, collecting 19 points for the second straight game. Ben Lubitz knocked down four three's in the contest for a career-high 15 points while freshman Brett Lauf scored 10 points for his first double-digit scoring day of his career. Justin Greason scored 15 points with four rebounds, Lance Dollison scored 11 points and both Jake Van Tubbergen and Drake Baar each contributed ten points. Chris Dorsey hauled in a team-high eight rebounds and dished out six assists to lead the Lakers in both categories on the night.

The Lakers have scored a combined 196 points over the final two games before winter break as they head into the NCAA-mandated rest period. The Lakers return to action on Dec. 30 to host the Rochester Warriors at 3:00 PM at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The game will be available live on the Laker Digital Network and on air on ESPN 96.1 FM and the iHeart app.
