Lakers erupt for 95-69 win over Purdue Northwest Saturday

GVSU scores second highest point total of the season to down Pride

Box Score

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Grand Valley State Lakers made eight of their first 11 three-point attempts Saturday and the offense erupted for a 95-69 Great Lakers Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win over the Purdue Northwest Pride at John Friend Court in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Hunter Hale scored a game-high 19 points and Justin Greason finished one rebound shy of a double-double. The Lakers improve to 4-7 on the year and 1-4 in the GLIAC while Purdue Northwest falls to 0-10 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

The Lakers shot .521 (38-73) from the field and finished 12-25 from three while Purdue Northwest shot .440 from the field and went 9-27 from beyond the arc. Greason flushed a two-handed jam a minute into the game to set the tone. Greason scored 12 points on an efficient 6-of-9 shooting while collecting nine rebounds on the day. Hale and the Lakers hit their outside shots early. Hale knocked down four three-pointers in the game while also collecting five boards and four steals.  Jake Van Tubbergen contributed 14 points and six rebounds and Lance Dollison knocked down three three-pointers as part of an 11-point performance in his return to his native state.

The teams traded leads over the first seven minutes of the game before the Lakers flurry of three-balls and an offensive barrage led to a 54-24 lead at halftime. Chris Dorsey dribbled into the lane and beat the buzzer with a layup to put a bow on one of the most complete halves of basketball the Lakers have played this season. The Lakers look to carry the momentum through the conference break and pick up where they left off when the GLIAC schedule resumes on January 4.

GVSU hosts Lawrence Tech in a non-conference bout Monday (Dec. 18) at 7:00 PM for the annual Winter Wonderland game at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. Tickets are on sale now and the Grand Valley Sports Network will have live coverage with video on the Laker Digital Network and live radio call on ESPN 96.1 FM and the iHeart app.
