Grand Valley State (15-3) split a non-conference doubleheader at Lewis Tuesday afternoon, winning game one 4-0 and dropping the nightcap 3-2. The Lakers will open the GLIAC portion of its schedule Friday (Mar. 25) at Ashland. First pitch for game one is set for 12 noon.
Grand Valley State struck early in game one as sophomore SS Taylor Shomin walked and moved to second on a sac bunt from C
Kaylie Rhynard. 1B Mackenzie Supernaw singled to shortstop and DP Ellie Balback homered to center to give GVSU a 3-0 lead. The Lakers added a run in the fourth as Supernaw doubled to left and scored on a Balbach double to left to up the Laker lead to 4-0.

Courtney Reinhold went the distance in game one and picked up the shutout. Reinhold, who improved to 4-0 on the year, yielded just two hits and struck out two Balbach, who drove in all four runs, was 2-for-3 with a 3-run HR and an RBI double. Supernaw was also 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs.
Lewis opened game two with a solo HR to center from the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the first. The Flyers added a second run in the third on two hits and two Laker errors. GVSU got on the board in the top of the fifth as Shomin singled to center and advanced to second on a sac bunt by C

Chelsea Horvath singled to center to plate Shomin and pull the Lakers within one run (2-1). Shomin led off the top of the seventh with a solo HR to left to tie the contest at 2-2. However, Lewis scored the game-winner on three hits and a Laker error to pull out a 3-2 decision.
GVSU scored two runs on seven hits, but tallied a season-high five errors. Freshman pitcher
Allison Lipovsky started and yilelded two runs, one of which was earned, on five hits with three strikeouts. Senior
Sara Andrasik gave up one run on three hits in the final 2.2 innings with a strikeout. Shomin was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, while Horvath was 1-for-2 with an RBI. LF

Jenna Lenza and Catle each collected a hit for the Lakers.
