The #2 ranked Grand Valley State football team will hit the gridiron Saturday (Nov. 5) at Saginaw Valley State in a 3 p.m. kickoff at Harvey Randall Wickes Stadium. The Lakers are looking to go 10-0 for the first time since 2008.

The Series
Grand Valley State leads the all-time series with Saginaw Valley State by a 34-11 margin and have won four consecutive and 12-of-the-last-13 games in the series. The Lakers claimed a 24-17 win over the Cardinals last season in Allendale. The Lakers sport a record of 21-2 at Lubbers Stadium versus the Cardinals and a 13-9 mark at Wickes Stadium. From 2002 - 2010, Grand Valley State was ranked either No. 1 or No. 2 in 10 of the 11 meetings with the Cardinals. Prior to the 2013 the lone time SVSU has been ranked higher than GVSU was in the 2003 playoffs and GVSU claimed a 10-3 win at Saginaw Valley State in the playoffs and eventually went on to win the National Chamionship.
• Grand Valley State is in its 46th season of football and sports a 380-137-3 all-time record. GVSU's .7336 winning percentage tops all of college football all-time, regardless of division, that have played at least 500 games. Michigan is second (.7317) and Notre Dame third (.7308).
• Grand Valley State remained #2 in the AFCA Division II Coaches' poll with 717 points after its 28-17 victory over Findlay. NW Missouri State is #1 with all 30 first place votes and 750 points.
• Grand Valley State has been ranked in the top five of 153 AFCA Division II Coaches' polls since 2001, including 102 weeks as the number one team in the country.

Grand Valley State claimed a 28-17 home win over Findlay. The Lakers and Oilers were tied at 14-14 at the half and Findlay led 17-14 after three quarters. However, the Lakers scored 14 fourth quarter points en route to the GLIAC victory. QB

Bart Williams completed 22-of-31 passes for 325 yards and three TDs, while
Matt Williams hauled in a career-high 10 passes for a career-high 179 yards and two TDs. Carter rushed for 110 yards on 15 carries. LB

• Grand Valley State continues to rank among the leaders in the GLIAC and the nation in several categories. The Lakers rank first in scoring defense (13.2) and turnover margin (+13), tackles for loss (8.2), QB sacks (3.78), redzone offense (.490), redzone defense (.317), second in scoring offense (39.0), total defense (335.1), rushing defense (111.6), passing efficiency (166.48, and third in total offense (486.4).
• The Lakers have outscored their first eight opponents 113-7 in the first quarter and 111-30 in the second quarter for a first half total of 224-37. Grand Valley State did not yield either a first half or rushing TD until the eighth game of the season and has scored in 27-of-36 quarters this season. After not giving up a TD in the first half of the first seven games, the Lakers have not yielded a TD in the second half of the last two games.
• GVSU has converted 51-of-104 (49.0%) attempts on 3rd down this season, while the opposition is 40-for-126 (32.0%).
• The Laker defense ranks first in the GLIAC and 9th nationally in QB sacks with 34 (-192), while also ranking first in the GLIAC and 26th nationally in tackles for loss with 75 (-304).

Carter tallied a record-setting performance with 298 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries in a 50-24 victory over Northern Michigan (9/17) in which he was named the D2Football.com National Offensive Player of the Week and the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week....Carter's rushing total was a GVSU single-game record and tied for the 10th-best, single-game total in GLIAC history...Former Laker Chris Robinson previously held the GV record with 261 yards on 33 carries at Findlay 2014...Carter rushed for 144 yards and two TDs on nine carries vs. Lake Erie (9/10) in the first half and was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. His 79 yard TD run was the longest for a TD since Brent Lesniak went 80 yards for a TD in 2001 vs. Ashland. Mike Ratay had an 87 yard run at Northwood in 2013, but did not score...Carter touched the ball 10 times in the game for 146 all-purpose yards, averaging 16.0 yards per rush and 14.6 yards per touch. He went 79 yards for a TD on the first play of the game and then added a 30-yard touchdown run and a 2-yard TD reception in the first quarter.

• 23 different defenders have recorded a TFL this season for the Lakers and GVSU has 63 TFL foor -248 yards.
• Grand Valley State set a single-game, school-record for total offense vs. Northern Michigan with 741 yards (449 rushing/292 passing), breaking the previous record of 731 yards vs. Valparaiso on Oct. 28, 1989.

• Grand Valley State and Saginaw Valley have met 19 times and GVSU is 16-3 in those meetings versus the Cardinals.
• Four meetings came in the NCAA DII playoffs (2001, 2003, 2005, 2013) and GVSU is 4-0 in those matchups. GV and SV met twice each year they squared off in the playoff years.
