Grand Valley State leads the all-time series with Findlay by a 13-3 margin. The Lakers have won 13 of the last 14 meetings since 1973, including 11 consecutive wins from 1973-2011. GVSU and UF played four times from 1971-74, with Findlay winning the first two (1971-72) games and GVSU the next two (1973-74). The Lakers and Oiliers renewed the series in 1998 when Findlay joined the GLIAC.
• Grand Valley State is in its 46th season of football and sports a 379-137-3 all-time record. GVSU's .7331 winning percentage tops all of college football all-time, regardless of division, that have played at least 500 games. Michigan is second (.7312) and Notre Dame third (.7308).
• Grand Valley State remained #2 in the AFCA Division II Coaches' poll with 717 points after a 35-17 victory over Hillsdale. NW Missouri State is #1 with all 30 first place votes and 750 points.

Grand Valley State state claimed a 35-17 victory at Hillsdale College in the final regular season meeting between the schools due to Hillsdale joining the GMAC. The Lakers and the Chargers traded second quarter touchdowns, with Hillsdale's touchdowns being the first, first half touchdown and rushing TD versus the Lakers in eight games. Hillsdale took a 17-14 lead midway through the third quarter, marking the first time during the 2016 season the Lakers trailed at any point in a game. • Grand Valley State continues to rank among the leaders in the GLIAC and the nation in several categories. The Lakers rank first in scoring defense (12.8) and turnover margin (+11), second in scoring offense (40.8), and yards per game (494.1) and third in rushing defense (107.0), total defense (325.6), rushing offense (242.8).
• The Lakers have outscored their first eight opponents 99-0 in the first quarter and 111-23 in the second quarter for a first half total of 210-23 (26.2 - 2.8).
