ALLENDALE, Mich./WALNUT, Calif./LONG BEACH, Calif./AZUSA, Calif. – It was a weekend packed with competition as the Grand Valley State track & field team participated in four events in Michigan and California.

The Lakers, ranked third and seventh in the latest UTSFCCCA Division II women's and men's rankings respectively, saw a majority of their team compete in the two-day
Al Owens Classic in Allendale, while others travelled west to compete in the Long Beach Invitational, the Mt. SAC Relays, and in the Bryan Clay Invitational.

The men and women combined to hit 27 NCAA provisional qualifying marks and two automatic marks on Friday and Saturday. Hitting the automatic marks for Grand Valley State were
Laura Schroeder for the women in the hammer throw and
Sean Wells for the men in the 110 meter hurdles. Anderson's mark of 59.98 meters was a personal best, while Wells' time of 13.77 broke his own school record and was .04 seconds off the stadium record set by Matt Brisson at the GVSU Last Chance Invitational in 2014.

Six Laker women hit provisional marks in the pole vault, making it the event with the most qualifying marks hit for GVSU.
Jamie Roberts came away in first place with a mark 3.92 meters, while
Whitney Bice took second with 3.77 meters.
Jennifer Schornak and
Alexandra Kitz also hit a mark of 3.77 meters, taking fourth and fifth, respectively, while
Michaila Lawcock and
Skylar Schoen vaulted 3.62 meters.

Rebecka Anderson was the first Laker on Friday to hit a provisional mark, placing first in the javelin with a throw of 45.86 meters.
Alexis Duncan and
Sarah Talbott also hit provisional marks for Laker women field athletes on Saturday, taking first and second in the long jump, respectively hitting marks of 5.92Â and 5.85 meters.
Dajsha Avery hit a mark of 13.59 meters in the shot put and a mark of 44.86 meters in the discus throw, while
Jenae Linville made marks in the discus (44.83m) and the hammer throw (51.72m).

In the running events,
Breanna Luba in the 400 hurdles (1
st, 1:01.05),
Tiara Wiggins in the 100 hurdles (14.28), and the 4x100 meter relay team (1
st, 46.39) of
Carly Scott,
Angela Ritter,
Michaela Lewis and Brittney Bannister all earned provisional marks.

On the men's side, both the 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relay teams earned provisional marks in the running events. The 4x100 meter team of
Luke Vasilion, Gerald McGee,
Zakry O'Brien and
Odell McFarland placed first with a time of 41.58, and the 4x400 meter team of
Brent Brock, Wells,
Daniel Pung and
TJ Burnett also placed first with a time of 3:16.85.

In the field events,
Andrew Olszewski,
Patrick Fisch and
Sam Wagner all vaulted a mark of 4.78 meters.
Mike Moon earned two provisional marks, placing second in the hammer throw (58.21m) and third in the discus throw (49.57m).
Chris Saikalis and
Darien Thornton both earned provisional marks in first place finishes, with Saikalis in the shot put (17.69m) and Thornton in the hammer throw (64.04m). Thornton also earned a mark in a fourth-place finish in the shot put (16.22m).
At the Mt. SAC Relays, Grand Valley State had several distance runners competing in the Thursday and Friday events.
Chris May placed seventh in the 10,000 meter Open-A with a time of 30:12.38, while
Brady Selner placed 26
th in the 10,000 meter Open-B with a time of 31:14.29. On Friday,
Bryce Bradley ran the 5k Open-A in a time of 14:12.64 to finish 12
th, while
Amy Cymerman finished ninth in the 5000 meter Open-A with a time of 16:20.59 and Â
Kendra Foley ran the 5k Open-B in a time of 16:46.78 to finish 11th.

At the Long Beach Invitational Cymerman, Foley and
Amy Creutz all ran in Section 3 the 1500 meter. Cymerman placed eighth with a time of 4:35.92, Foley 10th in a time of 41:41.51 and Creutz in 11th with a time of 4:42.74.
Ricky Perez also ran at the Invite, competing in Section 2 of the 1500 meter run and placing fifth with a time of 3:52.72.

Four runners competed for GVSU at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University. Creutz raced in the women's 5000 meter, while
Wuoi Mach and Perez ran in the men's 1500 meter, and
Ethan Barnes raced in the 800 meter. Barnes took third with a time of 1:50.05, Creutz placed 11th with a time of 17:01.52, Perez ran in a time of 3:48.48 to place 32nd, and Mach placed 50th with a time of 3:51.61.

Grand Valley State will be staying in Michigan for competition this week. From April 23 to April 25, the Lakers will be in Hillsdale competing in the Hillsdale Gina Relays, and from April 24 to April 25, another team of Laker runners and field athletes will head to Aquinas College to partake in the Ernie Mousseau Track & Field Classic
