The Grand Valley State men's basketball team plays its final non-conference game of the season on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 19), as the Lakers return to Ohio for the second weekend in a row. At 4:00 p.m., GVSU will take on Cedarville in the final game of the 2015 calendar year.

Saturday's game will be aired on WTKG-AM 1230 and WMUS 107.9 FM, with fifth year play-by-play announcer DJ Foster calling all the action. You can also listen on iHeart Radio or click on the 'Listen' link at the top of the page.

At 7-2 overall, GVSU will head back to Ohio after posting a pair of GLIAC road victories last weekend. The Lakers evened their conference record at 2-2 with an 83-69 win at Tiffin last Friday (Dec. 11) and an 85-79 victory at Ohio Dominican on Sunday (Dec. 13). Grand Valley State's offense was terrific last weekend, shooting a combined 51.3 percent from the field with at least 50.0 percent shooting in both wins. From three-point range, the Lakers shot 20-for-42 for a strong 47.6 percentage.

The scoring was balanced in the wins over Tiffin and Ohio Dominican, as four Lakers averaged double-digits in the scoring column. Junior guard Luke Ryskamp led the team in scoring in both contests, averaging 22.0 points per game. Seniors Ricardo Carbajal and Aaron Hayes each posted 13.0 points per contest, while fellow senior Chaz Rollins scored 11.0 points per game.

Grand Valley State has outrebounded all nine opponents this season, including a +17 rebounding margin at Ohio Dominican, its second-largest margin of the year. The Lakers lead the GLIAC with a +10.2 rebounding margin, which is well ahead of second-place Ferris State's +7.7 margin. GVSU's figure is the seventh-best mark in all of Division II.

Saturday's meeting between the Lakers and Cedarville marks the fifth straight season the two teams have played. The Yellow Jackets won the inaugural meeting on Jan. 31, 2012 in Cedarville by a 71-58 final. Since then, GVSU has won the last three matchups. The Lakers won 69-66 in overtime at home in the 2012-13 season, picked up an 83-69 win at Cedarville in 2013-14, and earned a 71-56 victory at home last season.

Cedarville (5-6 overall) started the year with five consecutive losses, which was followed by five straight wins. The Yellow Jackets recently completed a road trip with games on consecutive days, defeating Lake Erie (59-52) on Tuesday before falling at Walsh (71-63) on Wednesday. Competing in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC), Cedarville has actually played a number of GLIAC teams already this season.

The Yellow Jackets suffered losses to Malone, Findlay, Northwood, and Ferris State during the early-season five-game losing streak, as well as a loss to GLVC member Lewis. Adding in the games against Lake Erie and Walsh, Saturday's game against Grand Valley State will be Cedarville's eighth game against a GLIAC opponent this year. The Yellow Jackets will begin GMAC play in January.

Junior guard J.C. Faubion leads Cedarville in scoring (15.8 ppg.), rebounding (7.0), three-pointers (17), free throws made (43) and attempted (66), and steals (16). Sophomore guard Patrick Bain, a member of the 2014-15 GMAC All-Freshman Team, is putting up 11.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 44.0 percent from the field. Easton Bazzoli, a junior forward, is averaging 10.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, but is just 4-for-28 from three-point range.

After Saturday's game, the Lakers return to conference play with home contests on Jan. 2-3 against Wayne State and Findlay. Both games in Allendale will tip off at 3:00 p.m.
