It was a slightly more subdued affair than the first matchup between Grand Valley State and Saginaw Valley State, but the result, a Laker victory, remained the same.
GVSU received a goal apiece from
Kendra Stauffer and
Samantha Riga in the 9
th straight victory for the team.
The Lakers kept up a persistent attack on the Cardinals goal, and were rewarded when junior forward
Kendra Stauffer scored her fifth goal of the season in the 26
th minute.
Grand Valley took the one goal lead into halftime, and would add to the lead in the 63
rd minute off of the fourth goal of the season for freshman forward
Samantha Riga.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Paige Pryson made four saves in going the distance for the Lakers, earning a solo shutout in her second start of the season. The Lakers outshot the Cardinals 19-8.
GVSU returns to action on Sunday at GVSU Soccer Field in Allendale, Michigan, in a matchup against Northwood University. The game is the Kick Cancer game, and will raise funds for the Angel wings Foundation of Michigan, which bestows scholarships on children who have lost a parent to cancer. Kick off is set for 1 p.m.
