Wells Places First in Hurdles at Gladstein Invitational

Gladstein Invitational Complete Results

Bloomington, Ind. – Grand Valley State placed a total of 11 men and women athletes inside the Top 10, including one winner on the second and final day of the Gladstein Invitational on the University of Indiana campus.
 
Sean Wells, a returning USTFCCCA All-American in the indoor season, placed first in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 7.92. He hit an NCAA Provisional mark with his finish, and was just .03 seconds away from automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championship in the event. Wells was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay team that ran a time of 3:15.80, placing them second in the event.
 
Also on the men's side of track action, Wuoi Mach placed third in the 800 meter open with a time of 1:54.22, Joel Rietsma placed sixth (1:53.46) in the 800 meter invitational, and Odell McFarland (22.74) and Jesse Schwartz (22.80) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 200 meter dash.
 
In the field events, Brent Brock placed second in the long jump with a mark of 6.91m, while Nathan Fraeyman joined him in the top five by jumping a distance of 6.66m. Trent Chappell took fourth-place in the high jump by clearing a height of 2.02m, while Samora Nesbitt took fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 14.06m.
 
For the women, Angela Ritter placed third in the 60 meter dash finals with a time of 7.78, just .02 seconds from a second-place finish and .10 seconds from taking the event. Michaela Lewis also raced in the event, taking sixth with a time of 7.83. Also running in a final was Breanna Luba in the 60 meter hurdles, where she took sixth with a time of 8.87.
 
In the women's 800 meter open run, Natalie Nelson ran a time of 2:19.19 to place fourth, while Carly Scott took eighth in the 200 meter open run with a time of 26.12. In the field events, Laura Schroeder earned an NCAA Provisional mark with a third-place finish in the weight throw by hitting a mark of 17.77m. The women's 'A' 4x400 meter relay team placed sixth with a time of 3:54.41,
 
Grand Valley State returns to the Kelly Family Sports Center next Saturday at 5:30 p.m. when they host the GVSU Quad Meet.
