The Grand Valley State men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept a non-league dual Saturday (Jan. 17) afternoon at the GVSU Pool. The 5th-ranked Laker men claimed a 157-83 win over #13 Indianapolis, while the 10-ranked Laker women won a 165-75 decision over #18 Indy. GVSU will host Findlay next Saturday (Jan. 24) at 1 p.m. in the final dual meet of the season.
The GVSU men won 10-of-13 events, including placing two among the top three finishers in 9-of-11 individual events. Freshman Aydin Metin (Cologne, Germany) won two events (200 IM, 100 back), while fellow freshman Grabriel Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil) set a freshman record in the 100 fly (48.84), breaking the previous mark held by Jeremy Sall. The GVSU women won 11-of-13 events, including four 1-2-3 sweeps. GVSU placed two among the top three in nine events. Freshman Sam Postmus (Wayland, Mich.) won three events (1000 free, 500 free, 200 IM), while
Taylor Wiercinski (Walker, Mich.) won both the 1-and-3-meter diving events.
