The #5 Grand Valley State men's swimming and diving team claimed a 160.5-137.5 victory over Wayne State Saturday afternoon in GLIAC action at the GVSU pool. The Laker women dropped a 206.5 - 93.5. GVSU will host GLVC foe Indianapolis next Saturday (Jan . 17) at 2 p.m.
The Laker men notched seven first-place finishes, including a 1-2-3 in the 200 free.
Gianni Ferrero won the 200 free (1:43.47) and the 500 free (4:40.76), while
Sven Kardol  won the 200 fly (1:54.88). Metin Aydin touched first in 200 back (1:50.44), setting a new GVSU pool record in his first-ever swim for the Lakers. Gabriel Souza also set a pool record in his first meet with the Lakers, hit the wall first in the 100 fly (49.68). In addition, GVSU won both the 200 medley (1:31.76) and the 200 free relay (1:23.64). For the women,
Taylor Wiercinski won both the 1-and-3-meter diving and Sam Postmus finished first in the 500 free.Â
