LIMA, Ohio/MARION, Ind. - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team had a successful road trip on Saturday (Mar. 15), earning a pair of victories. The Lakers first defeated Northwestern Ohio, 7-2, before sweeping a 9-0 match over Indiana Wesleyan in the nightcap.
The pair of victories moves GVSU to 18-5 overall on the year, while Northwestern Ohio is now 8-5 and Indiana Wesleyan takes their first loss, falling to 16-1 on the year.
Against Northwestern Ohio, the Lakers picked up a pair of doubles victories, as the team of Lexi Rice and Carola Orna won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles and the squad of Niki Shipman and Morgan Patterson won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, the Lakers took five of six matches, including Lexi Rice winning a 6-4, 6-2 match at the No. 1 flight.
Following that match, GVSU hit the road to head to Indiana Wesleyan, where they handled IWU in a 9-0 sweep.
Rice picked up victories again at both No. 1 flights, taking a 6-3, 6-3 match in singles and pairing with Orna for an 8-4 victory in doubles.
The Lakers will now have an extended break before their next match, which will be a contest at Hope on April 10th at 4 p.m.
