Annapolis, Md. -
Despite taking an early lead for a second consecutive day, the Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team could not withstand eight unanswered goals by Bloomsburg in an 11-5 loss on Sunday (Mar. 16) afternoon. The Lakers outshot the Huskies 31-21, but struggled to find the back of the net on a cool and cloudy day in Annapolis, Md.
Junior midfielder Brooke Ingraham put GVSU on the board at the 28:12 mark with her fourth goal of the season.
For the next 35 minutes, Bloomsburg took control of the game. The Huskies scored the game's next eight goals to take a 8-1 lead in the early goings of the second half.
With 18:05 remaining in regulation, junior attacker Zoe Steimann ended the run off a feed from junior attacker Victoria Devine, who notched her first assist of the campaign.
Both teams would remain scoreless until Bloomsburg broke the drought at the 8:38 mark to make it a 9-2 affair. Sophomore midfielder Carolyn Kraus answered with a goal of her own just 45 seconds later. The Huskies stretched their lead back to seven a little over a minute later, only to see Devine notch her second point of the game.
Freshman midfielder Ryan Skomial capped GVSU's scoring with 22 seconds left to play, thanks to a nifty pass from junior attacker Sarah Lowe.
The loss drops the Lakers' overall record to 2-5. GVSU get two weeks of rest before facing Roberts Wesleyan on Mar. 31 at 1:00 p.m. EST for its first home game of the 2014 season.
