BracketGVSU Schedule at the NCAA Division II Championships Fall FestivalRecap of Thursday's 3-0 win over #12 Wingate#18 Grand Valley State takes on #4 Southwest Minnesota State in the NCAA Final Four on Friday afternoon (Dec. 5), as the Lakers and Mustangs meet at 3:00 p.m. for a trip to Saturday's (Dec. 6) Division II National Championship match. Friday's contest is being played at Knights Hall on the campus of Bellarmine in Louisville, Ky.
GVSU advanced to the sixth Final Four in school history by virtue of its 3-0 win over #12 Wingate on Thursday afternoon (Dec. 4). The Lakers are now 27-5 on the season and have swept all four opponents in this year's NCAA Tournament.
Southwest Minnesota State dropped the first two sets to Sonoma State on Thursday afternoon, but rallied to win the final three sets and advance to the national semifinals. SMSU, champion of the Central Region, is 25-9 overall.
The Lakers are 3-2 all-time against Southwest Minnesota State. On Sept. 7, 2013 in Allendale, GVSU topped the Mustangs by a 3-1 score as part of the season-opening tournament hosted by the Lakers last season.
Grand Valley State is looking to return to the Division II National Championship for just the second time in school history. The Lakers claimed the program's first national title with a 3-1 win at #1 Nebraska-Kearney in the 2005 NCAA Tournament.
Saturday's championship match is set for a 4:00 p.m. start.
