CANTON, Ohio - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team began the 2013-14 season in grand fashion on Friday (Sept. 6) at Harvard Courts, sweeping Malone to begin the year, 9-0.
The Lakers got wins in every spot on the lineup, beginning with Lexi Rice at #1 singles, who won 6-2, 6-1. That trend worked its way down as the other five GVSU players surrendered only five games total.
Newcomer Carola Orna played at #5 singles and won 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles, Rice and Orna paired up to win 8-4, while the other two doubles teams for the Lakers shut out Malone, 8-0.
GVSU will continue its season-opening roadtrip with a match against Walsh at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 7) in Canton.
