GRANDVILLE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team opened up its weekend home-stand with an 8-1 victory over GLIAC rival Saginaw Valley State on Friday (Sept. 20) afternoon at the Ramblewood Tennis & Health Club. The match was originally scheduled to be played at the GVSU Tennis Courts, but was moved indoors due to weather.
With the victory, the Lakers move to 5-1 on the season, while the Cardinals are now 2-6.
GVSU began the day by sweeping all three doubles matches, including a victory by the #1 doubles pair of Lexi Rice and Carola Orna, 8-2, to move their overall record on the year to 3-3. The #2 pair of Leah Dancz and Kali Phillips won 8-1, keeping their undefeated record in tact at 6-0.
Kristina Lucas saw her first action of the season at #3 doubles, as she paired with Kelly Trapp to win 8-0. It was the first time this season that Trapp had played in doubles.
In singles, GVSU won in straight sets in the five singles matches that the Lakers were victorious in. Trapp moved to 4-0 on the season when she won her #4 singles match, 6-0, 6-2.
The Lakers are scheduled to take on Michigan Tech at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 21) at the GVSU Tennis Courts. If weather forces the match indoors to Ramblewood, the contest will begin at 12:30 p.m.
