GRANDVILLE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team continued its unconventional home-stand on Sunday (Sept. 15), comfortably taking down Hillsdale by a score of 8-1. The match was moved from the GVSU Tennis Courts to the Ramblewood Tennis & Health Club due to weather.
The victory moves GVSU to 5-1 both overall and in GLIAC play on the season. The home-stand will continue on Friday (Sept. 20) when the Lakers welcome rival Saginaw Valley State to the GVSU Tennis Courts for a 3 p.m. match.
GVSU won doubles matches at both the #2 and #3 spots, but fell in the #1 doubles match. In the #2 match, Leah Dancz and Kali Phillips teamed up for an 8-2 victory, while Niki Shipman and Morgan Patterson duplicated that score in their #3 doubles match. Those #2 and #3 doubles teams are both now 5-0 on the year.
The Lakers took charge in singles, winning all six matches. Shipman kept her record unblemished at 5-0 on the year after winning at #3 singles, 6-4, 6-0. Phillips upped her #1 singles record to 2-1 on the year with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the top match.
