GVSU Tallies 18 First-Half Goals in 25-1 Win at Alderson-Broaddus

PHILIPPI, W.V. - The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team tallied 18 goals in the first half to go on and win 25-1 at Alderson-Broaddus to remain undefeated in GLIAC action on Friday afternoon.

The Lakers improve to 6-5 on the season and move to 3-0 in GLIAC action. Alderson-Broaddus, in its first year of competition, is 0-9 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

GVSU had 14 different players tally at least one goal with senior Allyson Fritts and sophomore Rachel Leibovitz recording four each. Freshman Taylor Bierwagen and sophomores Zoe Stiemann, Niki Jacobs, Brooke Ingraham and Jordan Luberto found the net twice. Sophomore Victoria Devina had one goal and four assists, while Bierwagen and classmate Nicki Tague had two helpers.

In the first half, the Lakers opened up the game on a 7-0 run before Alderson-Broaddus netted its only goal of the game.  The Lakers then went on to score 11 straight goals including four free-position shots to take an 18-1 advantage into half time.

Grand Valley State slowed its scoring in the second half to work on its plays, but the Lakers scored their most goals since their 25-1 victory against Olivet in 2012.

GVSU had 43 shots, 49 ground balls and 23 draw controls in their fourth straight victory. Fritts led the way off the draw with 11.

Alderson-Broaddus' keeper Kate Laird picked up 16 saves in the loss, while Laker keepers sophomore Audrey Kobe and junior Lindsay McCarty were not forced to make any stops.

Grand Valley State continues GLIAC play at Tiffin on Saturday at 7 p.m.
