GVSU Lacrosse Drops 17-7 Decision at Queens

FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-7 decision to Queens (NY) on Thursday afternoon at Knights Field.

Sophomore Ali Dixon was the only Laker to score multiple goals as the midfielder had two goals and an assist in the loss. Meagan Emery, Allyson Fritts, Taylor Bierwagen, Alyssa Neumen and Livvy Mickevicius eached scored, while Niki Jacobs had two assists.

Queens opened the game on a 5-1 run before Alyssa Neumen recorded a free-position shot to close the gap to 5-2. The Knights then went on a 3-0 run to hold an 8-2 advantage with less than a minute in the half. Jacobs then fed Dixon who scored with seven seconds remaining in the first frame to make in an 8-3 game heading into half time.

Four straight goals out of the break put Queens up nine before the Lakers tallied three straight goals to pull within 12-6. The Knights then went on a 5-1 run to close out the game.

Queens held a slight 29-22 edge in shots, while each team grabbed 13 draw controls. Sophomore Audrey Kobe snagged six saves, while Kahli Evans stopped 11 for the Knights.

Grand Valley State was limited to just seven turnovers, while recording four caused turnovers on Queens eight miscues.

The Lakers close out their four-game road stretch against Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Rochester, N.Y.
