East Lansing, Mich. - The Grand Valley State men's basketball team hung with the #2 Michigan State Spartans for a majority of the first half, but eventually fell 101-52. The game was an exhibition contest for both teams.

The Lakers got four of their first six points from freshman forward Trevin Alexander, including a tip-slam that knotted the score at 6-6 with 17:15 remaining in the first half.

MSU answered with a 7-0 run, which junior guard Ryan Sabin ended with a three-pointer. Later in the half, Sabin cut the Spartans' lead to 10 points with a pair of field goals from beyond the arc.

GVSU could not sustain its early momentum, though, and fell behind 47-24 by halftime.

An 11-3 run midway through the second stanza was the high point of the final 20 minutes for the Lakers.

Freshman guard Luke Ryskamp led GVSU with 13 points. Ryskamp knocked down 3-of-5 attempts from three-point range. Sabin and Alexander also reached double figures for the Lakers with 11 points apiece. Alexander grabbed eight rebounds as well.
