Box Score

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Senior forward Kayla Addison (Southfield, Mich.) tallied two goals for the No. 3 Grand Valley State soccer team as the Lakers defeated Ohio Dominican, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at the GVSU Soccer Field.

The win is the fifth-straight shutout for the Lakers and improves their records to 6-0-1 on the year and 2-0 in the early part of the GLIAC schedule. Ohio Dominican falls to 4-2 and 1-1 in league play.

Despite an early scare from a narrowly-missed shot from Ohio Dominican's Lauren Pratt, the Lakers were able to take an lead just 11 minutes into the first half. A cross from the right side from freshman Casey McMillan (Byron Center, Mich.) found Addison in the center of the goal box. Addison then turned and sent home the game-winning into the lower right corner of the net.

The rest of the half saw GVSU take 10 more shots, but come up empty. Ohio Dominican was able to get off five shots, but senior Chelsea Parise (Sterling Heights, Mich.) and the Laker defense were able to keep the Panthers off the board.

After the break, Ohio Dominican continued to put pressure on the GVSU defense, but could not break the back line. The Laker offense continued to move the ball finding opportunities in the box, but did not find the back of the net.

In the 87th minute, senior Alyssa Mira (Livonia, Mich.) was able to send a ball to Addison who streaked up the right side of the field, past an ODU defender and send the ball past Panther keeper Laura Clark into the right side of the net for the 2-0 lead. The two-goal game was the ninth in Addison's four-year career.

For the game, Grand Valley State held a commanding 23-9 shot total, while also holding a 10-2 edge in corner kicks. Parise picked up seven saves in her fifth straight shutout and has not given up a goal since the Lakers faced then-No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic. Ohio Dominican keeper Clark earned 11 saves in the loss.

GVSU is home again on Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. against GLIAC rival Saginaw Valley State. SVSU is currently 2-1-2 on the year, including a 1-0-1 mark in conference play after a double-overtime draw against GLIAC-newcomer, Walsh, on Sunday.
