GVSU Picks Up 14-11 Road Win Over Fort Lewis

DENVER, Colo. - A strong second-half performance from Grand Valley State women's lacrosse led to a 14-11 win over Fort Lewis at the Regis Lacrosse field on a sunny Friday afternoon.

The win improves the Lakers' record to 5-4 and gives them a four-game winning streak heading into its game at Regis on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. Fort Lewis drops to 4-3 on the season.

Grand Valley State was able to score nine goals, while holding Fort Lewis to just three in the second half to win its fourth straight game.

Fort Lewis got on the board first scoring a goal less than a minute into the game, but GVSU responded with five straight goals to hold a 5-1 lead with 20:17 remaining in the first. Freshman Victoria Devine (Centereach, N.Y.) netted two of her total three goals during the stretch.

The Skyhawks quickly answered with a 7-0 run to close out the second half and lead 8-5. Ally Kvidera scored the tying goal and the go-ahead goal with 6:39 on the clock.

Grand Valley State responded in a big way, opening the second half with four straight goals including back-to-back nets from freshman Rachel Leibovitz (Naperville, Ill.). Fort Lewis knotted the score again at nine and went ahead, 10-9, with back-to-back goals from Brook Wineland. Wineland led the Skyhawks with three goals.

The Lakers tied the score at 10 before going ahead 11-10, but a goal from Fort Lewis evened the score at 11, but it would be for the final time of the game as Grand Valley State scored the next three goals to win the game.

Leibovitz led all scorers with five goals on eight shots. Redshirt freshman Ali Dixon (Farmington Hills, Mich.) tallied two goals and an assist, while freshman Brooke Ingraham (Rochester Hills, Mich.) had two goals on the day.

Freshman keeper Audrey Kobe (New Hudson, Mich.) tallied nine saves in the win while also picking up three ground balls. Fort Lewis keeper Genna Waugh had three saves.

The Skyhawks held a 28-24 edge in shots and also a 19-8 advantage in draw controls, but GVSU forced 22 turnovers.
