GRANDVILLE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State men's tennis team opened its 2012 season with a 7-2 loss to Southern Indiana on Sunday morning at Ramblewood Health Club.

The Lakers got off to a slow start dropping each of the doubles matches.  In the No. 1 doubles match, Benny Delgado-Rochas and Andrew Darrell battled it out against Juan Quiroz and Diego Gimenez, but fell just short at 9-7 against the pair from Southern Indiana.

In singles action, Darrell was able to pick up a 6-4, 6-3 win against Juan Quiroz in the No. 1 slot.  Bryan Hodges also picked up a 7-6, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 spot against nationally-ranked Diego Gimenez.  Despite the singles victories, GVSU was not able to pull out another one to get an edge on Southern Indiana.

GVSU hits the courts again on Friday, Feb. 17 in the Grand Rapids City Tournament.  The matches begin at 4 p.m. at Orchard Hills in Grand Rapids.
