GVSU Falls to Michigan State in Exhibition Game

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's basketball team fell to Michigan State, 83-36, on Sunday afternoon at the Breslin Center in an exhibition game for both teams.

Senior Briauna Taylor (Livonia, Mich.) led the team with nine points on 4-of-12 shooting, while sophomore Kat LaPrairie (Rockford, Mich.) and junior Breanna Kellogg (DeWitt, Mich.) each recorded seven points. Senior Alex Stelfox (Bowie, Md.) led the team off the boards with five rebounds.

Six players recorded double figures for the Spartans including a team-high 16 from Jasmine Hines. Jasmine Thomas tipped in 15 on 6-of-9 from the floor including three long balls.

Michigan State jumped out to an early 13-0 lead, but the Lakers battled back to within nine, 17-8, with 13:38 remaining on a three-pointer from freshman Jammie Botruff (Gladstone, Mich.). Michigan State then pushed its lead back to double digits where it remained for the rest of the game.

Grand Valley State shot 14-of-52 from the field including 4-of-19 from long range. Michigan State held a 45-23 edge off the boards and had 19 assists on its 32 baskets.

GVSU opens up its season against Olivet on Monday, Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. at GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. It will be the Lakers only home game in the month of November.
