ASHLAND, Ohio – The No. 14 Grand Valley State women’s soccer team dominated Ashland, 5-0, at Ferguson Field on Sunday afternoon, extending the Lakers’ unbeaten streak to 24 games.

The Lakers now return home to host Ferris State on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. at the GVSU Soccer Field.  The game will be available via webcast on GVSULakers.com.

GVSU improves to 6-0-2 on the season and more importantly remain undefeated at 5-0 in GLIAC action.  Ashland falls to 3-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the conference play.

The Lakers scored their game-winning goal just 10 minutes into the game when junior Ashley Botts (Beliot, Wisc.) crossed the ball from the right side to find senior Erin Mruz (Gurnee, Ill.) waiting on the back post.  Mruz then connected with the ball, finding the back of the net from seven yards out for the 1-0 lead.

Botts kept her scoring streak alive, tallying her own goal at 19:42 for the 2-0 edge.  The junior carried the ball through the middle of the defense and beat keeper Chelsea Plescia, firing her shot from 12 yards out, scoring her seventh goal in five games.

GVSU took a 3-0 lead into halftime after junior Kayla Addison (Southfield, Mich.) knocked in a header.  The Lakers took a free kick, which deflected off an Ashland player just in front of the net for Addison to tally her fourth goal of the season.

Junior Maria Brown (Columbus, Ohio) found the back of the net in the 57th minute for the 4-0 lead.  Mruz crossed from the right side to the far post to find Brown who volleyed the ball in from just three yards out.  Brown has now scored a goal in back-to-back games.

Addison put another goal on the board in the 89th minute, playing a through ball from sophomore Kayla Kimble (Livonia, Mich.) and firing it inside right post for the 5-0 win.

Junior Chlesea Parise (Warren, Mich.) grabbed four saves in the shutout, while Plescia had three and her counterpart Karly Beuck had four.  GVSU held a 19-5 edge in shots, making this just the second game in which the Lakers did not tally 20 or more shots.
