Men's Tennis Upends Nationally Ranked Wayne State, 5-4

Clinton Twp., Mich. - The Grand Valley State men's tennis team handed 37th-ranked Wayne State their first conference setback of the season with a 5-4 victory today, moving the Lakers to 7-1 in the GLIAC and 13-9 overall. Senior Philipp Claus extended his singles winning streak to 11, taking the #2 flight by a 6-4, 6-4 score. He is now 15-6 on the year and a perfect 8-0 in GLIAC play. Junior Marc Roesslein also took the top flight in singles by a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) score to help lead the Lakers to victory.

Josh Kazdan was the other singles winner, taking his #6 flight by a 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 score. Roesslein and Trey Keating teamed up to take down the Warriors' top doubles combination by an 8-5 score. Claus combined with Andrew Darrell to win the #2 doubles match by a 9-7 score. As a team, Claus and Darrell are 12-8 overall with a 6-2 mark in GLIAC play.

The Lakers wrap up the GLIAC season with a match at perennial powerhouse Northwood on Wednesday, April 6th at 1 p.m. Northwood is currently undefeated in GLIAC play.
