ALLENDALE, Mich. - The No. 3 Grand Valley State women's soccer team posted a goal in each half to pick up a 2-0 win over Findlay in its final regular season home game of the season on Sunday afternoon at the GVSU Soccer Field.  The Lakers close out conference play at Ferris State on Saturday, Oct. 29 at noon.

The win gives the Lakers a 14-0 record in the GLIAC, marking the first time since 2008 that the program tallied 14 conference wins.  GVSU also extends its unbeaten streak to 35 games and posted its seventh consecutive shutout. Findlay falls to 6-8-1 on the season and 5-6-2 in the GLIAC.

Senior Erin Mruz (Gurnee, Ill.) had a hand in both goals, moving her to the top of the GVSU record book with 43 career assists.

GVSU struck in the 23rd minute when Mruz crossed the ball from the right side to junior Maria Brown (Columbus, Ohio) who headed the ball into the net.  The goal was the eighth of the season for Brown and her first game-winning goal.

Findlay pressured the Laker defense firing off the five first-half shots, the most since Saginaw Valley, which tallied three.  The Oilers had their best chance of the game in the 39th minute when a shot by Megan Gallaway was heading towards the left corner, but GVSU keeper Chelsea Parise (Warren, Mich.) made the save.

Freshman Charlie Socia (Portage, Mich.) tallied the Lakers second goal at the 48:26 mark on a header. Junior Ashley Botts (Beloit, Wisc.) deflected Mruz's corner kick back to her on the right side of the box. Mruz then lofted the ball to Socia who landed her third goal of the season.

The Lakers held a 26-9 upper hand in shots, including an 11-4 margin on goal.  GVSU also held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks, giving up a corner kick for the first time in 232 minutes. A very aggressive Findlay keeper, Alicia Tutino picked up nine saves in the loss, while Parise notched three.

Before the game seniors Megan Brown, Kayla Klosterman, Lindsey Marlow, Mruz and Jessica Trost for their contributions to the program in the last four seasons.
