Women's Tennis Advances to GLIAC Championship

Oct. 22, 2011

Final Stats

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women’s tennis team defeated Wayne State, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon to advance to the GLIAC Championship against Northwood on Sunday at 9:15 a.m.

Despite dropping the No. 1 doubles match, the two points picked up at the other two spots gave the Lakers the extra boost they needed heading into singles play.

Senior Tara Hayes (Shelby Township, Mich.) picked up a 6-4, 6-4, win at No. 2 singles, while sophomore Lexi Rice (Augusta, Mich.) and junior Allison Fecko (Grand Rapids, Mich.) were able to win at No. 4 and 5, respectively. Rice defeated Anne Li Briand, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 4 position.  Fecko won 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot.

Northwood, who won the regular season title, was the only other regular season loss for the Lakers.
