Final Stats
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women’s tennis team wrapped up the regular season with an 8-1 win at Ferris State on Thursday afternoon at the Ferris State Racquet and Fitness Center.
The Lakers are now 11-2 overall and 10-2 in the GLIAC to sit in third place in the GLIAC. Ferris State falls to 8-4 overall and in conference action.
GVSU swept through the doubles competition, with seniors Tara Hayes (Shelby Township, Mich.) and Alyssa Lucas (Clarkston, Mich.) picking up a convincing, 8-1, win in the No. 1 spot.
Hayes also won her singles match, 6-0, 6-1, over Tabitha Simpson in the No. 2 spot, while Lucas won in the No. 6 match, 6-3, 6-3. Reigning GLIAC Athlete of the Week sophomore Lexi Rice (Augusta, Mich.) continued her winning streak, downing Natalie Diorio, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4 singles.
Freshman Leah Dancz (Hudsonville, Mich.) struggled a bit in the first set of her No. 3 match, but picked up a 7-5, 6-0 win. In the No. 5 spot, sophomore Anne Marie Morin (Rochester Hills, Mich.) won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.
GVSU now heads to the GLIAC Championship from Friday, Oct. 21 to Sunday, Oct. 23 in Midland, Mich., at the Midland Community Tennis Center.
