Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State's women's soccer team defeat Ashland 3-0 on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 26) in Allendale, Mich. Senior Jaleen Dingledine recorded a hat-trick for the Lakers in the win as she notched three goals in five minutes during the second half of play. Grand Valley State will travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. on Tuesday, Sept. 28 to play a non-conference match against Indianapolis at 5:00 p.m.

"I really liked how we made some adjustments tactically in the second half to create more dangerous chances," said head coach David DiIanni. "The way Ashland played defensively could have frustrated us, but we stayed the course and were rewarded. Defensively our team is putting themselves in good spots to help one another and anytime you get a shutout in our program we are going to be happy."

After a scoreless first half, the Lakers got on the bored at the 67:52 mark. Dingledine scored her first goal after she received a cross from the left side from senior Kylee Merino. Dingledine took a shot from 12 yards out, placing the ball in the bottom left of the net. Just two minutes later Dingledine added her second goal after Shelby Humphries found her and then took a shot from nine yards out.

At 72:35, Dingledine recorded her hat-trick and fifth goal of the season, after she received a pass from Tayler Ward. The senior then took a shot from the right end line from 18 yards out, knocking the ball in the left corner of the net, giving the Lakers the 3-0 win.

GVSU controlled the ball for most of the game taking 10 corner kicks, to Ashland's zero. The Lakers also outshot the Eagles by a 31-5 margin, including a 14-3 shots on goal advantage. Goalkeeper Chelsea Parise notched three saves in the match and help Grand Valley State recorded its seventh shutout of the year. The Lakers advance it record to 7-1-1 overall, 5-1-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action, while Ashland falls to 2-5-1 overall, 1-4-1 in GLIAC.
