Box Score

Marquette, Mich. - The No. 2 ranked women's soccer team dropped its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) decision since the 2006 season on Sunday (Sept. 19) to Northern Michigan by a 1-0 margin in overtime. Grand Valley State breaks its unbeaten streak at 65 unbeaten regular season games and 43 unbeaten conference matches. The Lakers will return home and host Lake Erie on Sept. 24 at 4:00 p.m.

"All credit goes to Northern Michigan today. They are a very difficult team to play against, especially on their home field because they are sound defensively and work extremely hard for one another," said head coach David DiIanni. "We carried the majority of play today and had the opportunities for sure to score and loosen them up, but we weren't able to capitalize. I think it is important for our team to figure out what we want out of this season and once that happens, work on being consistent with our energy, focus and leadership."

GVSU outshot the Wildcats 20-8, including a 7-2 margin in shots on goal during 90 minutes of play. During the first minute and a half of overtime, Grand Valley State took two shots, including one shot on goal, while Northern Michigan only needed one shot to take the win. NMU scored at the 91:39 mark off of a free kick, giving the Wildcats the 1-0 overtime victory.

The Lakers fall to 5-1-1 overall, 3-1-1 GLIAC, while Northern Michigan advances its record to 3-0-3 overall, 3-0-1 GLIAC.
